Abstract

The present study was conducted to record the gross anatomical and biometrical features of the tongue in domestic pigeons. The tongue was reported to be triangular in shape and divided into apex, body and root. The lateral borders were sharp and did not show any type of papillae. The dorsum linguae did not show any grossly visible papillae except a row of caudal lingual papillae. It was found in the form of letter “V” shaped in between the body and root of the tongue. The dorsal surface was concave and showed a median longitudinal groove, extending from the tip of apex to the caudal part of the body. The ventral surface of the apex and body was convex and free from the mandibular ramphothica while the root was attached to the mandibular rhamphotheca through short frenulum linguae.
