The present study was carried out on microanatomy of thyroid gland in pre-laying and laying groups of Siruvidai, a native chicken of Tamil Nadu. Six female chicken of pre-laying (18-20 weeks) and laying (25-35 weeks) groups were used in the experiment.Histomorphological features of thyroid gland of both the groups were recorded. Thyroid gland of Siruvidai chicken was encapsulated consisted of follicles with colloid and interfollicular cells in both the groups. The activity of carbohydrates and enzymes was demonstrated.
