Abstract

The experiment was conducted on spleen of 18 healthy pigs to study the postnatal development. The sections were processed and stained to obtain the histological details. Splenic parenchyma was divided into a white pulp made up of lymphatic infiltration and red pulp of splenic cords. In early stages red and white pulp were poorly defined but was clearly differentiated from 21day spleen. Splenic nodules comprised aggregation of lymphatic tissue with occasional germinal centers. These nodules were noticed from 40 day spleen onwards. PALS was clearly observed in white pulp from 21 days. Ellipsoids were abundant in the marginal zone from 21 days. Red pulp comprised splenic cords and blood vessels which occupied the space between marginal zone of white pulp and trabeculae and were clearly observed from 40 days spleen.
