Abstract

The histomorphological observations on the buffalo foetal kidney revealed that the mesonephros developed on the dorsal part of coelomic cavity at 2.5 cm CRL and was differentiated into the cranial and caudal parts at 3.0 cm CRL (42 days). The initial development started with the formation of the mesonephric
tubules followed by mesonephric glomeruli, vesicles along with proximal and distal convoluted tubules which could be seen at 3.5 cm CRL (45 days). The mesonephros started degenerating at 4.1 cm CRL (47 days) and it completely degenerated at the age of 10.3 cm CRL (75 days). The degeneration of mesonephros
occurred in a cranio-caudal direction and was followed by the development of the metanephros.
