Abstract

Microanatomical study of the endocrine portion of the pancreas of Madras red sheep was carried out in three different postnatal age groups. Immunohistochemical localization of the alfa and beta cells presented a varied distribution pattern in islets. Delta cells were identified as the least numerous cells of the islets in the
present study, mostly situated at the periphery. Histoenzymic study showed presence of acid and alkaline phosphatases, glucose-6-phosphatase and cholinesterase in some cells of the islets.
