Abstract

The aim of this research paper was to study the histological details of the gall bladder in Drongo. Samples were
collected from three male and two female healthy adult drongo bird. Tissue sections were processed normally and stained
with haematoxylin and eosin. Histological sex based differences were not found. The gall bladder was composed of tunica
mucosa, tunica muscularis and tunica serosa. The tunica mucosa was mainly lined with simple columnar epithelium which
was covered by a continuous layer of microvilli. This gives the appearance of striated border of the luminar surface. Goblet
cells were absent in the epithelial cells. The tunica mucosa forms uniform folds throughout the luminar surface. Surface
epithelium formed deep invaginations into the underlying mesenchyme showing tubular gland-like appearance. Muscularis
mucosa was absent. The thin lamina propria and submucosa contained loose connective tissue which consisted of diffuse
lymphatic tissues. No glands were seen in lamina propria and submucosa. Tunica muscularis consisted of single circular
layer of smooth muscles were found. Tunica serosa was made up of loose connective tissue which contained adipose
tissues and blood vessels.
