Abstract

The present study was designed to explicate the development of lymphnodes during prenatal life in buffalo. The foetuses were divided into three groups based on their CVRL viz Group I (0-20 cm CVRL), Group II (> 20-40 cm CVRL) and Group III (> 40 cm CVRL).A total of 18 foetuses ranging from 3.0 cm CVRL (42 days) to 108 cm CVRL (317 days) were used for this study. At 3.5 cm CVRL (44 days), the connective tissue surrounding mesenchymal cells condensed to form capsule and entirely covered the lymph node. The capsule consisted of dense collagenous fibres with scattered fibroblasts, mast cells, a few lymphocytes and plasma cells and scarce smooth muscle fibres. At 15 cm CVRL (96 days) development of capsule was noticed and fully differentiated capsule was noticed at 108 cm CVRL (317 days). At 28 cm CVRL (137 days), trabeculae were first seen in the cortex of lymph node while it pierced medulla at 48 cm CVRL (182 days).
