Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the distribution pattern of phosphatases and oxidoreductases in goat large intestine during prenatal development. The study was conducted on large intestine of goat fetuses ranging from 45days to full term. The study revealed that majority of enzymes showed moderate to intense activity in villous epithelium and tunica muscularis whereas weak activity was observed in tunica submucosa. The intensity of enzyme activity increased with progression with gestational age indicating increase in metabolic activity. The enzyme activity was correlated with development, differentiation and maturation of different histological components.
