Abstract

Gross anatomical studies were conducted on the spleen of 18 healthy and normal goat embryos/ foeti of either sex at different gestation. Primordium of spleen was first found at the age of 46 days. Up to 50 days gestation it was in the form of white thickening on the dorso-medial aspect of the stomach tube near its cranial end and changed position with respect to the developing rumen. It became nearly triangular between 51 to 58 days gestation and quadrilateral in outline from 70 days gestation. The hilus became distinct near the cranio
dorsal angle on the visceral surface at 81 days of gestation. Average weight of spleen was 0.08 ±0.03 g and 0.83±0.15 g, in group II and group III,  espectively. In the present study the average length, width, thickness of
spleen were 20.29±1.5 mm, 14.76± 0.97mm and 5.07± 0.17mm, respectively in group II and 7.55±1.34 mm, 5.81±0.93mm, 1.82±0.48 mm, respectively in group III.
