Histomorphological and Histochemical Studies on Spleen of Kadaknath Fowl

Abstract

Histomorphological and histochemical studies were conducted on the spleen of Kadaknath fowl in day old to more than 32 week of age. The reddish-brown, ovoid shape spleen was situated at the right site of the junction of proventriculus and gizzard. The spleen was covered with thick connective tissue capsule made up of mainly collagen and reticular fibres with few elastic fibres. The parenchyma of the spleen was divided into white pulp and red pulp without clearcut demarcation. The amount of white pulp was increasing with the advancement of age. In older age group the amount of collagen fibres and number of capsulated lymphatic nodules were more. The lymphatic tissue was consisted of different sizes of lymphocyte, plasma cells, mast cells and PALS. Some melanin pigment was observed in the capsule and parenchyma of the spleen.
