Abstract
Jamun as a hardy fruit crop, can be grown under adverse climatic conditions and on a wide range of soils but deep loam and well-drained soils are ideal. Jamun Goma Priyanka has semi-dwarf plant stature with spreading growth habit. It is found suitable for commercial cultivation under high-density planting. In the absence of proper canopy management practices in high-density orchardsof jamun, its plants grow erect and become overcrowded which pose problem for harvesting of fruits and due to inadequate light penetration deeper in canopy, flowering, fruit setting and quality are badly affected. To maintain dwarf framework of jamun trees, main stem is toped at 3.5 m to facilitate easy harvesting of fruits. It is also observed that pruning of 25% annual extension growth in September is effective to reduce plant canopy and to improve flowering, fruiting and fruit quality.
