Abstract

Soil fertility maps of Puri district of coastal Odisha were prepared by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS). Geo-referenced soil samples were collected from different villages of different blocks of Puri district and analysed for physico-chemical properties, available major and micronutrients and thematic maps were prepared by using Arc GIS software. Total 678 numbers of geo-referenced soil samples were collected. The soils were found to be acidic to alkaline in soil reaction (4.40 to 7.94) and low to high in organic carbon content (0.38 to 24.6 g kg-1). Available nitrogen (65 to 450 kg N ha-1) and phosphorus content (0.25 to 111.5 kg P ha-1) ranged from low to medium but available potassium ranges from low to high (32.5 to 1137.9 kg K ha-1). Available sulphur content ranges from deficient to very high (2.8 to 306.6mg kg-1) and hot water soluble boron content ranged from 0.09 to 3.31mg kg-1. The fertility maps and database are very useful for planning, monitoring and evaluation of soil.
