Abstract
Sustainability of water resources is a critical issue for fulûlling the rising water demands of various competitive sectors including agriculture, which is the largest water user that consumes over 70% of the abstracted freshwater globally (Singh 2015). The issue has become more challenging in the light of dwindling resource base due to urbanization, contamination, and climate change impacts. There is growing realization especially for the countries in the arid and semi-arid climatic zones for approaching full utilization of their surface water resources.
