A field survey was conducted for characterization of underground irrigation water quality and its effect on soil properties of Marwar Junction and Rani tehsils of Pali, Rajasthan. Fifty-five water samples were collected during January, 2021 from forty villages of Marwar Junction and Rani tehsils from the tube wells which were used for irrigating the fields. The water samples were analyzed for various chemical properties like EC, pH, major cations: Ca++, Mg++, Na+ and K+ and anions: CO3- -, HCO3-, Cl- and SO4- -. Subsequently, residual sodium carbonate (RSC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), adjusted SAR, and Soluble sodium percentage (SSP) were also calculated. The quality of irrigation water was categorized on the basis of salinity (EC), sodicity (SAR) and alkalinity (RSC) into 4 salinity (C-1 to C-4) classes, 3 sodicity (S-0 to S-2) classes and 4 alkalinity (A-1 to A4) classes, respectively. Besides this, the quality of irrigation water was also categorized on the basis of the EC, SAR and RSC into six classes viz. good, marginally saline, Saline, High-SAR saline, marginally alkali, and highly alkali. The results showed that 38.18 per cent water samples were good, 49.10 per cent marginally saline,
5.45 per cent saline, and 3.63 per cent High-SAR saline, 1.82 per cent marginally alkali, and 1.82 per cent highly alkali in nature and the majority of irrigation waters were good to marginally saline category. The three management units were identified for better utilization of irrigation waters of the area for sustainable resource management.
