Muga and Eri silks are the most important culture related occupations in Manipur with significant economic importance. Soil quality plays very synergistic role in producing good and healthy leaves needed for harvesting quality cocoons to enhance silk production. The present study is the first attempt to generate the soil nutritional value and geographic information survey (GIS) map for Muga and Eri soils of Imphal valley of Manipur. The surface soil (0-15cm) was found extremely acidic (pH < 4.5) to strongly acidic (pH 5.0-5.5) with low organic carbon (< 0.4%) and potassium (< 34 kg ha-1) content. The sulphur availability index was 9.1 and 8.5 in Muga and Eri host plants farms, respectively. Soil Nutrient Index value was low for potassium and medium for sulphur and zinc in both the vanya silk farms. Spatial distribution maps were prepared to depict the availability of micro and macro nutrients in the study area soils.
