A survey was conducted to evaluate the quality of groundwater of Sonipat block in Sonipat district of Haryana during 2019-2020 for irrigation purpose. Eighty five samples were collected from different villages and analyzed for various haydrochemical parameters such as pH, EC, cations (Ca2+ , Mg2+ , Na+ and K+) and anions (CO32- , HCO3-, Cl- and SO42- ) by using standard procedures. The pH, EC, SAR and RSC in groundwater ranged from 6.50 to 10.36, 0.28-23.20 (dS m-1), 2.30 to 45.70 (mmol L-1)1/2 and 0.00-5.70 (me L-1), respectively. The average ionic concentration of cations and anions were in the order of Na+> Mg2+ > Ca2+ > K+ and Cl-> SO42- >HCO3-> CO32- , respectively and 44.9, 17.3, 9.2, 15.3, 5.1 and 8.2 per cent samples were categorized in good, marginally saline, high SAR saline, marginally alkali, alkali and highly alkali categories, respectively. Spatial variability maps of EC, SAR and RSC of ground water used for irrigation in the district were also prepared.
