Abstract

The immunotherapeutic efficacy of freeze-dried immunoglobulin concentrate (IgC) obtained from pooled bovine sera in experimentally induced colibacillosis in colostrum-deprived calves was assessed. Pooled bovine sera was processed to obtain freeze-dried IgC. Colostrum-deprived day-old male calves (10) wcri!divided into 2 groups, group 1 served as infected control, and group 2 calves were given 3.0g of IgC intravenously following E. coli 0126 challenge. All the calves in group 1 foHowing infection showed typical signs of coli bacillosis and all the calves succumbed to infection. In group 2, the clinical symptoms were mild to moderate, and 4 out of 5 calves recovered uneventfully by 48 hr of challenge.
