Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 1991-92 to 1993-94 to study the effect of greengram [Phaseolus radiatus
(L.) Wilczek] on rice (Oryza sativa)-wheat (Triticum aestivum) system. Green manuring of greengram gave higher
values of growth and yield attributes, nutrient uptake and protein content of rice. Grain yield of rice as well as wheat
increased significantly With the green manuring. Lower values of bulk density and pH, while higher organic carbon
content was noted owing to green manuring. Application of N improved the growth and yield attributes, protein content
and also NPK uptake. A significant increase in grain yield of rice was found up to 120 kg N/ha. Organic carbon increased
at higher level of N.
