Spongy tissue in 'Malika' Mango (Mangifera indica)

Incidence of spongy tissue in 'Mallika' (Mangifera indica L,) inango was noticed for the first time in north Indian condition. Five per cent of fruits were affected with this physiological disorder, Maximum damage (75%) was noticed in the lower part of the fruits while 25.0 and 10.5% of middle and upper portions were affected respectively. In affected hits as compared to the healthy ones, higher acidity and starch, low pH, TSS and a-amylase activity were recorded.
