This study is summarised as an experiment comprising 5 varieties of direct sown rainfed rice (Oryza sativa L.) was conducted in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during 2002- 2003 and 2003-2004. All the varieties differed significantly in their grain yield in different environments. Environment (linear) and variety x environment (linear) interactions were also significant. On the basis of stability analysis the variety 'Ashoka 228' was found stable for better environments, whereas 'Ashoka 200F' was stable across environments with better yield potential.
