India having the largest cotton growing area in the world and is currently at third position in production with an average yield of 430 kg lintka which is far below the world average of 600 kg lintha not to speak of productivity of countries like USA (800 kg lintfha), China (1 000 kg lintlha) and Australia (I 600 kg lintha) (Basu and Tanweer 2005). Both genetic and non-genetic factors contribute towards the instability of the production and productivity.......
