Development of Scale to Measure Attitude of People about Agricultural Biotechnology
119 / 19
Abstract
There was no scale available to measure attitude of people about agricultural biotechnology. The present
study was undertaken to develop the same during 2016-17. The method of summated rating suggested by
Likert (1932) was followed in the development of scale. Fifty statements about agricultural biotechnology
were collected. These statements were edited and framed in such a way that they expressed positive or negative
attitude. These statements were provided to thirty judges for ensuring relevancy of statements. Based on the
jury opinion, 32 statements were found relevant. Item analysis of these 32 statements was done. The ‘t’ value
of all 32 statements and mean ‘t’ value were calculated. Statements having higher ‘t’ value than mean t values
were selected. In this way, a total of 18 statements (having 8 positive and 10 negative statements) were
selected for final attitude scale. This scale was found reliable and valid. It can be used for measuring attitude
of people about agricultural biotechnology.
