Keywords:
Shrimp waste, growth performance, digestibility, nitrogen balanceAbstract
A study was conducted to determine the effects of supplementation of shrimp waste containing chitosan on the growth performance, digestibility of nutrients and nitrogen balance in crossbred pigs. There was a significant (P<0.01) increase in average body weight gain, increase in digestibility (P<0.01) of major nutrients and increase in nitrogen retention (P<0.05) due to shrimp waste supplementation. The results of the study indicated that supplementation of shrimp waste containing chitosan could improve growth in pig, and the underlying mechanism is increase in digestibility of major nutrients.
