Prolific sheep breeds of India

Abstract
In literature the reports are scanty on prolific sheep breeds of India. Hence, an attempt has been made to discuss the prolific sheep breeds of India. Almost all sheep breeds of India produces single lamb except Garole and Kendrapada. Recently FecB gene has been identified in Kendrapada sheep of Orissa; and it is 2nd sheep breed of India after Garole which carry FecB mutation. The overall distribution of twin and triplet lambing are 47.94 and 17.01 % in Garole and corresponding figures for Kendrapada are 35.1 and 2.3 % respectively.Downloads
