Abstract

The IVRI has played a lead role in disease control and eradication of African Horse Sickness by contributing towards AHS virus isolation, characterization and development of vaccines and diagnostics. The outbreaks were controlled by polyvalent neurotropic mouse adapted vaccine developed by IVRI. Appropriate biosecurity measures must be adopted at international boundaries to avoid its re-emergence, as neighbouring countries still have not been declared free from the disease.
