Agronomic Research and Technological development for improving agricultural productivity in eastern India

Abstract

Soil and water are integral and basic resources for agriculture and its allied sector. Fortunately, eastern region enjoys unique physiographic, demographic and socio-economic condition but fragmented land holding poses big hurdle to make advantage out of these. Ample scope of improvement in respect of crop production is available in the region as it is endowed with natural resources. Now focus should be on technologies for small and marginal land keeping in view the present climate change scenario to produce economically under expected frequent outburst of abiotic and biotic stresses. Workers engaged in agricultural and allied sector in general and persons involved in technologies generation related to production management and improvement in particular should have to accept the challenges to improve the productivity as there is as such not much scope for horizontal expansion. Various efficient and matching technologies have to be developed by recourses and input management worker for new genptypes developed by breeders.
