Azolla Cultivation and its Use as alternative green fodder for livestock

Abstract
Azolla is palatable and cheapest nutrition to cattle, buffaloes, ducks, chickens, pigs, goats, sheep and rabbits. It contains 25-30% protein and low in lignin which makes it digestible by many animals. Rich in essential amino acids, vitamins (vitamin A, vitamin B12 and β carotene), growth promoter intermediaries and minerals like calcium, phosphorous, potassium, ferrous, copper, magnesium etc. On a dry weight basis, it contains 25–35% protein, 10–15% minerals and 7– 10% of amino acids, bio-active substances and bio-polymers. Feeding, Azolla can increase milk production in cow to the extent of 15-20%. It can improve the reproduction performance and also increase the conception and reduce the sterility in dairy animals. There is improvement in the health performance in dairy animals. Cultivation and harvesting is very easy. The bio-product of Azolla cultivation after 6 month, can be used it as bio fertilizer in organic farming or fields.Downloads
