The Role of Women in agriculture
116 / 92
Abstract
Women’s important roles are that of producers of food, managers of natural resources, income earners and caretakers of the household food and nutrition security Despite such a huge involvement, her role and dignity has yet not been recognized. Women’s status is low by all social, economic and political indicators. Because women’s health and nutrition are important issues of life, interventions must be directed to female malnutrition from adolescence to pregnancy and lactation, continuing with promotion of child growth during infancy, pre-school,school age and adolescence. Direct actions to, improve women’s health and nutrition complement the struggle to achieve the long-term goals of gender equity and women’s empowerment.
