Abstract

The imbalanced use of chemical fertilizers has resulted in adverse
effects on the environment, polluting soil and ground water resources. Deterioration of soil health due to less organic matter and micronutrient deficiencies is becoming ubiquitous, threatening sustainability and quality of produce thereby, impacting nutritional security. Further, indiscriminate and rampant use of agro-chemicals including chemical fertilizers and pesticides has led to development of resistance in pests to pesticides. It also destroy irretrievably the beneficial insects like honey bees, pollinators, parasitoids, predators. There is also-huge apprehension of causing adverse harmful pesticide residual effect in the end product which in turn might impinge productivity and food safety.
