Characterization of Important Subtropical Varieties of sugarcane
94 / 81
Abstract
Sugarcane and sugar production in the country is influenced by complex factors like area under cane, variety grown, cane yield, sugar recovery, crop management practices, climatic factors, damage due to pests and diseases, prevailing price of sugarcane and its impact on jaggery and khandsari production. Among these, the most eagerly sought after nonmonetary input is introduction of new sugarcane varieties to achieve higher yield and better quality. Creation of a sugar variety to suit different objectives is not an easy task. Hence, the concept of all purpose varieties is now being replaced by location specific varieties to cater to local and immediate priorities.Downloads
