Abstract

Healthy seed means the seed cane entirely free from disease. This can be obtained only by careful periodic inspection and thorough eradication of diseased clumps. Healthy seed cane of absolute genetic purity is obtained either from plant crop raised as nucleus seed or the progeny of nucleus seed grown at research station. Seed cane viability and vigour can be maintained by ensuring sufficient moisture in the seed cane as well as in the buds.
