Abstract

Potato is an important crop in north-eastern hills region but its productivity in the entire region except Tripura is much below than national average. This is mainly due to non-availability of quality seed of improved high-yielding varieties at affordable prices and acute shortage of cold stores. Potato production through true potato seed (TPS) can serve as an alternative technology to increase productivity and reducing the cost of production. Improved TPS populations like 92 PT 27 and TPS C3 are suitable for this region. The TPS crop can be grown either by raising seedlings in nursery and transplanting in the
field or for seed production in nursery-bed itself.
