Status of Pampus argenteus fisheries in Khoozestan wate:rs (North-West Persian Gulf), I.R.Iran

Length frequency samples collected from October 1992 to March 1996, on major landing centres of Khoozestan province have beenanalyzed, using ELEFAN and other softwares. Pampus argenteus is a high-priced fish in the local and neighbouring markets.Biological parameters have been estimated for available data. Relative yield per recruit analysis and Thompson and Belllength-based predictive model have been applied to the data. Growth parameter (K) for the available data is estimated to be 1and asymptomatic (fork) length 35.6 cm. Natural and total mortality rates were estimated to be 1.5 and 3.3, respectively, forthe period of study. The results showed that at present, this species is fished at or near its MSY level and there should notbe any further increase In the effort to catch P. argenteus.Downloads
