Abstract

Ovaries and tubular genitals from 39 clinically healthy prenatal Surti buffalo foetuses were studied at 6 different phases of intrauterine development; ranging from 67 to 305 days. The foetal ovaries revealed different shapes. However, most ovaries were ovoid even during the late gestation from 240 to 305 days. The maximum mean ovarian length and thickness was noticed between 158 to 305 days of gestation. The maximum width of the ovary was observed between 240 to 305 days. The mean oviductal length increased significantly (P<0.05) from 158 to 305 days. The maximum mean length and width of the uterine horn, had occurred from 158 to 305 days, while that of cervix occurred from 116 to 191 days. The vaginal growth was maximum from 158 to 191 days, While that of the vestibule, was maximum from 240 to 305 days of foetal life.
