Broiler Finisher dietAbstract
A feeding trial of 28-day was conducted to determine the effects of completely replacing dietary maize with combinations of maize/sorghum-based brewers' dried grains (MSBDG), cocoyam corms (CCM) and cassava root (CRM)- meals on the performance of broiler finisher and cost of production. The 3 test materials (MSBDG, CCM and CRM) were combined at the ratio of 30:15:15; 15:30:15; and 15:15:30, respectively, in the diets BD2. BD3, and BD4. Diet 1 (BD1) contained 60% maize which was completely replaced in BD2, BD3 and BD4. Other ingredients in the broiler finisher diets remained the same. There were no significant differences in body weight of the groups (P>0.05), although feed intake of the group on BD4 (30% CRM), was significantly (P<0.05) depressed. Feed conversion ratio of the 4 groups were not affected by treatments (P>0.05). The weights of the internal organs expressed as per cent of body weights and the apparent digestibility of the various feed nutrients not affected by the treatment. Cost of production (/kg live weight) was drastically reduced by the combinations of the 3 test materials.
