Immunogenicity of Mycoplasma mycoides sub species capri saponin vaccine in goats

The immunogenicity of Mycoplasma mycoides sub sp. capri (M. capri) saponin vaccine was carried out in goats. The vaccine was prepared from an Indian strain of M. capri which contuined 2 mg of protein of the cells and 3 mg of saponin in 1 ml of PBS. It was inoculated in 13 goals or about 1 year of age by subcutaneous route at the neck and was found safe. For potency test the vaccinated goats were inoculated with 1.0 ml of the virulent M. capri culture along with the suitable controls at different time intervals. The direct challenge tests revealed that the vaccine was protectitive up to 60% and 80% at 7 and 13 months post-immunization respectively.
