The present study was undertaken to compare capsular antigens of Pasteurella multoicda strains isolated from a field case of ovine pneumonia (type 8) with a reference strain. Capsular antigens were extracted by saline solution, potassium thiocyanate and sodium salicylate solution separately. Out of these 3 methods, sodium chloride extraction method resulted in the highest protein concentration in both the strains as compared to other methods. Protein profile of both the strains by SDS- PAGE revealed more number of bands by the same method of extraction. Saline solution extract was able to produce high antibody titre, whereas sodium salicylate extract was mote cross-reactive.
