A 372 base pair DNA, encoding the small subunit ribosomal RNA of Theileria anllulata, was labelled with a non-radioactive steroid hapten digoxigenin and used to detect the target DNA of T. annulata in dot-blot hybridization assay. The signals of hybridization were recorded in lymphnode biopsy showing macroschizont index up to 0.001 % and infected blood showing intra-erythrocytic parasitaemia up to 0.00062%.
