Abstract

Bacterial pathogens associated with epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS) in fishes in Assam were studied. A Widespread outbreak of EUS was recorded in the Barak Valley region af Assam. Puntius conchornius, Mystus vittatus, Macrognathus aculeatus and Chama punctata were widely affected with the condition. Aeromonas hydrophila was found to be the chief etiological agent followed by Pseudomonas, Klebstella and Staphylococcus spp. The isolates were highly sensitive to chloramphenicol, norfloxacin, nalidixic acid and tetracycline.
