Biochemical changes, Newcastle disease virus strainsAbstract
The biochemical changes in serum of chickens following infection with 3 Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains of varying virulence were studied in 6-week-old chickens. A marked decrease in total serum protein, serum albumin, cholesterol and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) with increase of uric acid and serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT) were observed in chickens infected with velogenic strain of NDV. Infection with mesogenic strain increased SGOT and decreased ALP level in serum. Levels of cholesterol and uric acid increased in birds infected with lentogenic strain. Serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) level did not change in the birds infected with any of the strains.
