Pathology of experimental molybdenosis in goats

Abstract

Molybdenosis was induced in 20 goats of 5-7 months of age. The two treatment groups of 8 goats each were drenched daily ammonium molybdate solution to provide molybdenum @ 50 and 100 ppm of feed intake on dry-matter basis for 235 days. Four goats of control group received placebo distilled water. Gross lesions were general debility and depigmentation of hair coat The microscopic changes included loss of melanin pigment from the hair cortex and medulla, haemosiderosis of lymphnodes, spleen,
liver,lungs and intestines, degenerative changes in the liver, skeletal muscles and testes, colloidal goitre and arrested bone growth.
