Abstract

Comparative utihzation of wheat straw + 2 kg green berseem + concentrate mixture (control),ammomated oat straw + 2 kg green berseem + 1 kg wheat (gram) (T-1), ammoniated oat straw + green berseem + 1 kg barley (grain) (T 2), ammomated wheat straw + green berseem + 1 kg wheat (gram) (T-3), and ammomated wheal straw + green berseem + 1 kg barley (gram) (T 4), was studied by feeding straw and green berseem ad hb to 1 vear old growmg female buffalo heifers The average daily gain of heifers was 503,665,607,578 and 572g m control, T 1, T 2, T 3 and 1 4 groups, respectively, during 120 days The differences were signiflcantly higher In treatment groups as compared to that in control, but within the treatments they were higher in oat straw based rations the differences In the digestibities of DM,OM,CP, CF, energy among expormental rations were nonsignificant, however, the digestibility of NFE was slgnificantly higher in the control group than In vanoua test groups A reverse trend was observed for the digestibility of CP and ADI The nitrogen retdaned as percent of observed nitrogen was better in the control group It remained almost similar There was an mcreasing trend m the concentration of NH, N and total VFA m rumen liquorat O and 6hr feedlng and between Various expenmental group, It remained unaffected Similar trend was observed for the concentration of blood glucose, serum prolem, and serum albumm in vanous experimental group The higher activity of serum GO 1, GPT and alkaline phosphatase was noticed at 0 and 6 hr feeding In the vanous expenmental groups a' compared to control I ecd to gam ratio was higher
In the control group than test group Similarly, the cost/kg gam (Rs) m Ihe control, T 1, T-2, T-3 and T-4 groups was Rs 13 47,842,901,9 80 and 984 respectively h was inferred that free chOice feeding of green berseem and fennented oat/wheat straw along with 1 kg wheat/barley gram as a source of energy ean result In economical raising of growmg buffalo heifers
