Abstract

A cross-over study was carried out in mongrel dogs to determine the plasma pharmacokinetics of longacting oxytetracycline following either intravenous or intramuscular route in healthy and experimentally induced febrile dogs. The plasma concentrations of oxytetracycline were lower in febrile than in healthy dogs following both intravenous and intramuscular administration. Oxytetracycline was detected in febrile dogs at 48 and 36 hr following intramuscular and intravenous injections respectively. The pharmacokinetics
parameters like t1/2Beta. AUC were lower after intramuscular. and Vd, CI8 and Kel were higher after intravenous administration in febrile dogs. The bioavailabilily was also lower (61 %) in febrile dogs than in normal dogs (91 %). The dosage regimens were also calculated
