Abstract

Paddy and oat straWd were inoculated with Coprinus fimetarius along with urea (3.00,3.50,3.75 and 4.00%). CaO (0.1%) and SSP (1 %) in perforated Polythene bags and incubated for 1 0, 20and 30 days atroom tempcruture (20°-38°C). Paddy straw with Coprinus fimelarius at 3.00% urea level for 30 days gave higher increasc in IVDMD, CP content and ADL degradation. Whereas under similar conditions oat straw showed lower IVDMD, ADL deg radation and CP content. In a feeding trial on adult male goats fed fungal-treated paddy straw lower (P<0.01) feed intake (kg/
100 kg BW) was ohserved as compared to animals fed conventional ration (2.93±O.20 vs 0.65±O.06). Digestibility coefficients for CP, CF and NFE showed nonsignificant differences whereas those for DM and NFE were higher (P<0.01) in control group. Animal, fed fungal-treated straw showed significant (P<0.01) body weight loss during feeding trial of 37 days. The values for nitrogen intake, nitrogen retention and nitrogen retention (% or intake) were also lower (P<0.01) in treatment group.
