Abstract

Tissue samples (75) from cases of inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) and respiratory, infections were subjected to agar-gel precipitation test (AGPT). counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE) and double antibody sandwich ELISA for direct detection of avian adenovirus (AAV). In AGPT, CIE and ELISA, respectively, 9,20 and 31 samples were positive. Isolation in chicken embryo liver (CEL) cell culture revealed 17 isolates from IBH cases and 15 from respiratory infections. The identification of isolates was done (In The basis of characteristic cytopathic effects (CPE). including demonstration of basophillic intanudear (I/N) inclusion bodies and serological tests, viz. AGPT, CIE and ELISA. ELISA was the most sensitive lest as it detected all the 31 isolates as compareo to CIE(30) and AGPT (14)
