Replication of bluetongue virus in mononuclear cells of sheep
36 / 13
Abstract
Replication of bluetongue virus serotype 1 was studied in cultured lymphocytes and monocytes. The viral antigens were demonstrated by immuno fluorescence and immunoperoxidase staining in the cytoplasm of the infected lymphocytes and monocytes. Biological assay of the cell lysates and supermatants of in vitro infected lymphocytes and monocytes also suggested replication of the virus in these cells. Transmission electron microscopic observation revealed numerous virus like particles
and tubular structures in the cytoplasm of the infected cells.
