Abstract
Feed deprivation for 3 days progressively reduced body weight, feed and water intake in Egyptian Baladi, exotic Anglo·Nubian and Anglo.Nubian x Baladi crossbred goats during winter and summer. Rectal temperature, pulse rate and respiration rate markedly decreased during starvation. Haemoglobin, packed-cell volume and red blood cells values increased and glucose concentrationdecreased during starvation, mamly in Anglo-Nubian goats during summer. Response of white blood cell counts to starvation was variable between breeds and seasons. Results reflected a better adaptabi lity of the native Baladi goats in the harsh conditions of newly reclaimed desert areas of Egypt.
