Abstract

The study was conducted on 12 buffaloes divided into 3 groups , viz group 1 neonatal, group 2 prepubertal and group 3 pubertal, to investgate the postnatal development of epithelium of epididymis. The tissue samples were collected from head (RI-RIV), body (RV)and tail (RVI). In neonatal animals the epididymal tubules were lined with simple columnar epithelium. The epithelial pseudostratification began in region VI of 21/2- month-old buffalo calf. With age the pseudostratification progressed towards body and tail and from 1 year onward the whole of the epididymis was lined with pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium. In addition to columnar cells the other cell types found in the epithelial lining were basal cells, apical cells and intraepithelial macrophages and lymphocytes. The stereocilia made their apperance at 1 year of age. Intraepithelial cysts were seen in bull.
