Evaluation of a selection experiment for egg number and egg weight in White Leghorn chicken
50 / 17
Abstract
Response of birds of 2 strains (OY and OT, 31 372 White Leghorn chickens) from 11 generations for egg number and egg weight was computed. Independent culling level method was followed in which egg number was selected using Osborne's index and egg weight by mass selection. 'The realized phenotypic response per generation was positive for egg number and negative for egg weight in both the strains. The realized genetic response for egg number per generation was 0.365 and 1.009 eggs in OY and OT strains respectively. The corresponding values for egg weight were 0.185 and -0.010 g. The expected response per generation was 1.243 and 1.556 eggs for egg number and 0.115 and 0.010 g for egg weight in OY and OT strains respectively.Downloads
