Abstract

The sun-dried poultry droppings besides bacteria, yeast and moulds also contained pathogens like Escherichia coli. The sun-dried ground poultry droppings (PD) alone or in combination with wheat straw in 50 : 50 ratio (PDWS) were moistened to 30% and deep-stacked for 25 days. Maximum stack temperature (66° and 70°C) attained on third and fourth day in PD and PDWS stacks, respectively, declined gradually till it reached 30°C on 25th day. The E. coli were completely eliminated by fourth day whereas total aerospores, yeast and moulds by 16th day of deep stacking PD alone or in combination with wheat straw. The deep-stacking did not have any adverse effect on the chemical composition and in-sacco degradabiJity of nutrients in PD or PDWS mixture.
